SPUMC Youth 2019 Mission Trip - Monday, July 15th, 2019 - Day 2

Hello again everyone!

We had a fantastic first day of working with WARM today at our worksite. Our worksite is actually located in Hampstead, NC. It is located about 35 minutes from where we are staying. Kind of near Topsail beach. WARM actually serves New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties, so it is quite a large area of the coastal area of NC.

Our projects today involved putting in some quarter round molding around the floor of the house, as well as replacing the subfloor and putting down new tile in the laundry room, bathroom, and a bedroom!  It is nice that we are all located together as the same worksite. It is giving us a great opportunity for us to bond together as a youth group. Our students all did a great job working, and we had many students try new things such as using a nail gun or a circular saw for the first time!

Check out some pictures of our projects down below today! Hopefully they will be completely transformed by the end of the week!

After a long hard morning / afternoon working at our worksite, we left and headed straight to the Good Shepherd Center. This is an organization here in town that helps feed meals to those in need as well as providing other services to then. Tonight, we helped prepare and serve a meal for those that were there. We helped make meatballs over rice, pork chops, Mac and cheese, green beans, mixed vegetables, salad, bread, fruit or dessert. Ms Jennifer, who was in charge, complemented our group; talking about how well behaved they were, they had the right attitude, and how hard working they were. And this was AFTER we had spent from 9 am to 3 pm working at our construction site! So I am so proud of this group for their long hours they put in.

Today will probably be our longest day of the week, with only Wednesday rivaling the length. But I am super proud of our students! They faced every bit of work today with a positive attitude despite the heat and the struggles we faced today.

Today was really our first day out in the mission field, and we did so many things! But it is just the beginning! There is still so much work to be done! Check back tomorrow to see our progress on our worksites and hear about our day.

Your Servant in Christ,

Todd Handell
